While living and working in Chicago, Leigh & Brian met while out with mutual friends. About a month later, Leigh moved back to Kalamazoo - her hometown. Realizing quickly that they couldn’t be apart, Brian soon followed and relocated to Kalamazoo himself. While sitting by the lake at Brian’s parent’s house - the same spot where they first told each other they loved each other - Brian popped the question. It was very romantic and Leigh immediately said yes!
After selecting their wedding date, Leigh saw a photo of a cake by Confection in Richland. The cake design had warm earth tones with various shades of green, dark chocolate brown and white. It was the perfect look for a fall wedding and she knew she wanted the cake immediately. They also wanted to convey a sophisticated & modern, yet romantic atmosphere with a lot of earth elements.
The ceremony was held at Leigh’s father’s family church, First Presbyterian Church in Kalamazoo. Her aunt & uncle were married there and her father’s family has been attending the church for years. The feel of the ceremony was intimate & romantic; it took place at 5:30 with soft light streaming through the stained glass windows of the church. The pews were lined with candelabras and soft & simple music was provided by both a piano & violin player.
In keeping with the sophisticated, modern theme, the couple chose Cityscape Events for their reception. Everything was perfect, down to the linens. The lighting, the table settings, the food and the service were beyond all the couple’s expectations.
Completing the elegant look and feel were the incredible florals created by Dorothy’s Floral Studio, who used ivory roses, green cymbidium orchids, hydrangeas and berries in the bouquets; as well as mums, lily grass, orchids, roses, fresh fruits, branches & olives - all within contemporary glass containers for the reception decor.
One of Leigh’s favorite moments was when Brian serenaded her at the reception with Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon”, a song that is very special to them both.
